Republicans Ahead in NJ and VA Governor Races

10/27/2009, by Proloy Bhatta

HIGHLIGHTS

  • PPP NJ: Christie (R) 42%, Corzine (D) 38%.
  • Rasmussen NJ: Christie (R) 46%, Corzine (D) 43%.
  • Washington Post: McDonnell (R) ahead by 11%.

This is what the ABC News Poll released on Oct 19, 2009 had to say:

"Only 20 percent of Americans now identify themselves as Republicans, the fewest in 26 years. Just 19 percent, similarly, trust the Republicans in Congress to make the right decisions for the country’s future."

Many say the Republican party is dying but the polls in the NJ and VA governor races show a different dynamic.

Despite the fact that NJ tends to be a Democratic stronghold, Public Policy Polling has released a poll today showing Christie (R) is ahead of Corzine in NJ, 42% to 38%. Rasmussen Reports agrees: Christie 46%, Corzine 43%.

In VA, Washington Post has the Republican candidate up 11%.

Even though voters are not self identifying themselves as Republicans, they are still willing to vote for them. And as long as they are willing to vote for them, all this chatter regarding the end of the Republican party is nothing more than talk.

Democrats are the ones that need to worry because they are the party in power.
