Americans Still Trust Democrats on the Issues

6/9/2010, by Proloy Bhatta

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Major issues: Democrats 44%, Republicans 32%, Neither 18%.
  • Unemployment: Democrats 48%, Republicans 40%.
  • Federal government debt: Democrats 39%, Republicans 46%.

According to ABC News, American adults prefer the Democratic party to the Republican party in handling the main issues facing America.

"Overall, which party do you trust to do a better job in coping with the main problems the nation faces over the next few years?" - Democrats 44%, Republicans 32%, Neither 18%.

USA Today / Gallup found similar results in a poll they conducted of 1,049 adults nationwide from May 24-25.

Broken down by issue.

Issue Democrat Republican
Environment 58 28
Discrimination against minority groups 58 28
Unemployment 48 40
The size and power of large corporations 48 37
Health care costs 47 40
The situations in Iraq and Afghanistan 44 41
Illegal immigration 40 45
Federal government debt 39 46
The size and power of the federal government 37 48
Terrorism 36 49

The Democrats are the strongest with the environment, civil liberties, and unemployment ... while the Republicans are the strongest with government debt, the size of the government, and terrorism.

What does this all mean? It may not really mean anything for 2010. Voters already seem to have decided their intentions are to vote the bums out of Congress -- and that, for the most part, are a slew of Democrats.

Besides, the most mobilized group for 2010 appears to be the Tea Party and central for their cuases is government debt and the size of the federal government, benefiting the Republicans.

But imagine the voting public votes in a bunch of Republicans to congress in 2010 but still trusts the Democrats more on the issues. Who will they vote for in 2012?
