Republicans Look Good in Michigan and Utah Governor Races

12/3/2009, by Proloy Bhatta

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Republican Mike Cox leads Democrat John Cherry in Michigan 2010 governor race.
  • Incumbent Republican governor of Utah, Gary Herbert, likely to retain his seat in 2010 election.
  • Obama disapproval in Utah jumps 17% since April.

Michigan

Detroit News released the results of the Michigan Governor race in an article they released November 30, 2009.

Here are some 2010 governor polls from Mitchell Research.

In the Democratic primary, John Cherry would beat Andy Dillon, 49% to 8%. In the Republican primary, Mike Cox edges out Pete Hoekstra, 27% to 24%. Facing off, Cox would beat Cherry in the general election 47% to 31%.

Jennifer Granholm is the current Governor of Michigan and she is a Democrat. Thus, Republicans look poised to gain a governor seat in Michigan.

Utah

According to Deseret News, incumbent Governor Gary Herbert leads potential Democratic opponent Peter Corroon, 56% to 32%.

Obama's disapproval rating in Utah has jumped to 60%. We did not expect Utahn to be supportive of Obama anyways but when Deseret News last conducted this poll in April, Obama's approval rating was 53%.
