Rudy Giuliani New York State Governor and Senator Polls

11/20/2009, by Proloy Bhatta

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Governor Republican Primary: Giuliani 84%, Lazio 13%.
  • Giuliani (R) 60%, Patterson (D) 35%.
  • Giuliani (R) 43%, Cuomo (D) 53%.

Here is what MSNBC reported regarding Giuliani's potential run for governor in 2010.

"Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who many Republicans have been pushing to run for governor in 2010, is instead leaning more toward a run for U.S. Senate, according to two party advisers. The adviser noted that nobody is saying Giuliani has decided, but it "certainly sounds" like he is less interested in running for governor. Another adviser echoed that."

According to Marist, Giuliani would handily beat Rick Lazio 84% to 13% in the Republican primary and then beat incumbent David Patterson 60% to 35%. But if Giuliani were to face Andrew Cuomo for the governorship, he would lose 53% to 43%.

News sources offer a couple of reasons as to why Giuliani may rather run for Senate.

  1. to avoid facing off against Cuomo for Governor
  2. it is better to be in the senate if you have national aspirations
