In a poll released last week, Rasmussen Reports found that likely voters trusted the GOP more on 8-of-10 issues. This is shocking news to those that thought the Republican party was dead and buried.

But here's what's going on. There is a tendency for the American voter to go against the party in power, as was the case with the Republicans under Bush.

But this poll is likely less a reflection on the country's newly found trust in the GOP but rather their slipping of trust in the Democrats.

Will this affect them in 2010? There are other recently released polls that show the country is still supportive of Democrats.

The latest Research 2000 poll conducted from July 6-9, 2009 found that when adults were asked which party they would like to see more of in 2010, Democrats beat out the Republicans, 41% to 28%.

CNN has recently released a poll they conducted from June 26-28, 2009 that found that 50% of adults thought it was good for the country that the Democrats were in control of Congress.

It does not seem fair to report the Rasmussen Reports poll without also bringing up the polls by Research 2000 and CNN to put it all in context.
