Tea Party Senate Races
7/24/2009, by Proloy Bhatta
ABC News and the Washington Post conducted a survey July 15-18, 2009 of 1001 adults nationwide.
Here is what they found.
Obama's approval ratings may be slipping but not to the benefit of Republicans. Americans still continue to trust Obama over Republicans on the issues by over 20%.
| Issue | Obama | Republicans |
| Economy | 56 | 33 |
| Health care reform | 54 | 34 |
| The federal budget deficit | 54 | 35 |
So when the Republican pundits yap on about Obama's approval ratings, just ask them, who do Americans trust more on the issues?
Don't you just love how these Republican polls are never consistent? Mike Huckabee will be ahead one day and Mitt Romney another.
National polls are meaningless because there is a) no national primary, and b) we are over two years away from the Iowa caucus and c) there is no guarantee that any of these candidates will run, ultimately changing the dynamic of the race.
If we average the last two polls, Romney would still remain the leader, 23.5% to 22.5% over Huckabee.
| Candidate | ABC News | Gallup (7/10-12) |
| Huckabee | 26 | 19 |
| Romney | 21 | 26 |
| Palin | 19 | 21 |
| Gingrich | 10 | 14 |
| Pawlenty | 4 | 3 |
| Jeb Bush | 3 | - |
| Barbour | 1 | 2 |
| Jindal | 2 | - |
