Republicans Very Hopeful for 2012, Huckabee Leads in Latest Poll10/16/2009, by Proloy Bhatta HIGHLIGHTS
Poll: Rasmussen Reports, 750 Likely 2012 GOP Primary Voters, Conducted October 15, 2009 Republicans are very confident of their party's chances in 2012. 81% say they are at least somewhat likely to defeat Barack Obama, 50% say they are very likely to win. Yesterday, we released a Fox News poll that showed more Americans would vote against Obama than vote for him. And as far as potential candidates go, Huckabee leads in the latest poll. Huckabee - 29% Although Huckabee is ahead of Romney here by more than the margin of error, Republicans would be happy with either candidate. When asked who they would least likely see win the nomination, Romney and Huckabee were both in the single digits while Palin was at a whopping 21%. Huckabee and Romney have each distanced themselves from Sarah Palin. RR's last Republican poll in July had a three way tie between Huckabee, Romney, and Palin but the former VP candidate is now double digits behind. Tim PawlentyThe favorable ratings for both Huckabee and Romney were tops for the 2012 field at 78%. The little known Tim Pawlenty scored the worst approval rating of the entire field: 45%. But approval ratings of lesser known candidates do not really mean much. Are voters likely to state they approve of a candidate they do not know? Of course not. But Pawlenty will be an interesting politician to watch. Pawlenty was not selected as the 2008 VP candidate although he was at the top of many wish lists. But according to TheHill.com, Pawlenty has enlisted the support of "a number of GOP strategists from John McCain's 2008 presidential campaign". This is a sign that Pawlenty is thinking ahead to a potential 2012 run. Comments Who Would You Vote for in 2012?
