Six of Six Pollsters Say Americans Are Against the Health Care Bill11/21/2009, by Proloy Bhatta HIGHLIGHTS
Fox News released a recent poll on the health care bill. They found that 51% of registered voters are opposed to the bill. Here are some additional crosstabs from the poll. Seniors aged 65 and over oppose to the legislation by 56-30 percent, while voters under age 30 are slightly more likely to be in favor of it (45-41 percent). Few Americans — one in six (16 percent) — think their family would be better off under the reforms. The rest split evenly between thinking they would be worse off (37 percent) and saying the reforms would not make much of a difference to their family (37 percent). Those living in lower-income households (income less than $30,000) are twice as likely as those living in higher-income households (income $100,000 and over) to think their family would be better off under the health care reforms — 28 percent and 14 percent respectively. Fox News is not an outlier. All six pollsters with recent surveys found greater opposition to the bill than support -- by an average of eight points. Do you favor/oppose the current health care bill?
Fox News polled registered voters, each of the five other pollsters polled adults nationwide. We spoke about this topic in an earlier article dated Nov 18, 2009. Despite the opposition to he health care bill, Americans were still in favor of a public option. Public Option
Reason for an abundance of opposition to the bill? Some see the bill as being too expensive. Some do not believe it is the government's responsibility to control health care. But some polls have also shown that about one-in-four of those that oppose the bill think it is not liberal enough. Perhaps that is the reason why there is more support for the public option than there is support for the bill as a whole. Comments Who Would You Vote for in 2012?
