Obama's Approval Rating Down to 49percent12/9/2009, by Proloy Bhatta HIGHLIGHTS
Bloomberg had this to say: A Bloomberg National Poll conducted Dec. 3-7 gives Obama a 54 percent overall job-approval rating. Yet Americans have a negative view of his efforts on the economy, health care, the financial crisis and the federal budget deficit. The only area where he earns high ratings is foreign policy, with 59 percent of Americans saying they approve of the way he manages relations with other countries, and 62 percent who support his plan to send 30,000 more troops to Afghanistan, though opinion is divided about setting a deadline for withdrawal. Poughkeepsie Journal had this to say about the Marist poll: Obama has slipped slightly among voters in both parties — 77 percent of Democrats approve of the president’s job performance compared with 12 percent of Republicans. Two months ago, 84 percent of Democrats and 21 percent of Republicans gave him a thumbs-up. Independents remain divided — 41 percent approve while 44 percent disapprove. “As 2009 comes to a close, President Obama’s goal of unifying the nation and reducing the partisan divide is coming up short,” said Dr. Lee M. Miringoff, director of the Marist College Poll, in a prepared statement. Miami Herald had this to say about the Ipsos poll. Obama has the lowest approval rating of his presidency - 49 percent - slipping below 50 percent in the poll for the first time and entering a danger zone for presidents heading into a midterm election year. The sinking numbers extend to his party as well. The Democratic Party has lost double-digit ground to the Republican Party on every issue, including the economy, other domestic issues such as health care and foreign affairs.
