Obama's Approval Rating in Two Recent Polls

8/5/2009, by Proloy Bhatta

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Time: 56%
  • CBS: 58%
  • CBS has measured a 5% drop in approval since June.

Obama's approval rating in two recent polls averages out to be four percent better than the previous week of polls.

  • TIME, 7/27-28: 56%.
  • CBS / New York Times, 7/24-28: 58%.

The five prior approval polls had him at either 53% or 54%.

  • NBC/Wall St. Journal: 53%
  • NPR: 53%
  • Pew: 54%
  • Battleground: 53%
  • FOX/OD: 54%

So does this mean Obama is gaining ground?

Not so fast.

This is the first time that TIME magazine has conducted a poll so we do not have a baseline with which to compare those results.

CBS/New York Times conducted a poll in June and Obama had a 63% approval rating at the time.

So despite the fact that the New York Times has him polling better than the other pollsters, they have similarly measured they same time of drop off in July, about 5-7%.
