Tea Party Senate Races
10/23/2009, by Proloy Bhatta
Del Ali from Research 2000 ran Obama's favorable ratings by region and found that he is extremely popular outside of the South.
| Region | Favorable | Unfavorable |
| South | 27 | 68 |
| West | 59 | 32 |
| Midwest | 62 | 30 |
| Northeast | 82 | 7 |
| Entire Country | 55 | 37 |
| Non-Southern States | 67 | 24 |
One problem with analyzing poll results by subgroups is that you have to carve up the entire sample into smaller subsamples -- which carry with them a larger margin of error. However, the total sample size of the Research 2000 poll is 2,400 adults which is more than sufficient for this kind of an analysis.
"Republicans are heading past minority status toward extinction" says Del Ali.
He also believes that " the majority of white voters in the South have a problem with Barack Obama due to race”. In the south, only 47% are certain that Obama was born in the United States, 90% elsewhere in the country.
Comparing Research 2000's overall numbers with that of other pollsters, we see that they are all in the same range.
| Pollster | Dates | Favorable | Unfavorable |
| AVERAGE | 55.8 | 38.8 | |
| CNN | 10/16-18 | 60 | 39 |
| Research 2000 | 10/12-15 | 55 | 37 |
| FOX | 10/13-14 | 55 | 41 |
| Gallup | 10/1-4 | 56 | 40 |
| Quinnipiac | 9/29-10/5 | 53 | 37 |
